How to transfer links from the old MyBYU to the new one

As you probably know, the old MyBYU site has several modules with lists of links. Some of these are carryovers from previous systems spanning back decades. Many of them overlap, and they all have different ways of categorizing links. This can get very confusing.

In addition to the campus links modules, the old MyBYU has a custom bookmarks module that can be used to store and organize any links that a person wants to add. While it's not a widely used feature, it is something that people rely on.

One of the objectives for the update of MyBYU was to simplify the link lists and bring them into a single module. We understand that a change will take some time to get used to, and we want to make the transition as smooth as possible. Once the new site goes live, the old MyBYU will still be available throughout Winter semester 2023 at my-old.byu.edu.

Campus Links

To make sure we didn't miss anything, we cataloged every link in every module that we could find in the old MyBYU and transferred them into the new MyBYU. They're all included in the new link search page, along with descriptions to make it easier to find what you're looking for.

Clicking the + Add to favorites button will add that link to the list of your favorite links on the MyBYU home page. This will allow you to have access to all of the links that were previously in MyBYU, with the added ability to customize the list to your needs.

Personalized Bookmarks

We understand that for people who use the personalized bookmarks module, this change to the new MyBYU will require some updates to the way you work. We have not built the bookmarks module in the new MyBYU, but we've carefully considered the alternatives.

Add links to MyBYU

The best option for getting your old links into MyBYU is to let us know what's missing. The new system allows us to easily add and update links, so if there are important BYU links that are not there, let us know by emailing mybyu-feedback@byu.edu.

Add browser bookmarks for sites you use regularly

We know that there may also be bookmarks that don't fit well into the MyBYU link list. In this case, we suggest using your web browser's bookmarking capabilities. (This will allow you to access your bookmarks even when you don't have the MyBYU site open.)

We've included links below to instructions on how to use them, including how to sync bookmarks across devices. If you have questions or need help with this transition, you can also email mybyu-feedback@byu.edu.
